When must your rental property be registered?

Every private landlord in England must register themselves and each rented property on the government's new landlord register, region by region from 15 December 2026. Enter the property's postcode to see its region, when registration opens and the deadline.

The deadline follows where the property is, not where you live.

Have this ready

  • The gas safety record
  • The Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) or an equivalent certificate
  • The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
  • Details of the property and the tenancy, and the rent

The landlord registers, and starts and ends each registration. A letting agent or property manager can provide some of the information for you. If you don't register, you risk a fine.

Letting agents: check every let

Certaby checks the tenant and the landlord against the UK, UN, EU and US sanctions lists, records the Right to Rent check in England, and keeps one signed certificate for the file. A let from £1.98, no subscription.
