Export screening

Check a buyer, consignee or supplier against the US export lists and UK sanctions, in one go.

Before you ship, sell or source, screen the other party against the US Entity List and five more US export-control lists, and the UK, UN, EU and US sanctions lists. Each check is a dated record that names every list and the date our copy was refreshed. For a UK company we also screen everyone recorded in its ownership.

  • Denied Persons List (US Bureau of Industry and Security)parties whose US export privileges have been denied by order

UK companies and their owners

The US Affiliates Rule extends Entity List and Military End User List restrictions to companies owned 50% or more by parties on those lists (or by certain parties on the US Treasury's SDN list), directly, indirectly or together. It was suspended for a year on 10 November 2025 and is due back on 10 November 2026 unless the US suspends it again.

Check a UK company by its number and we screen the company and everyone recorded as owning or controlling it at Companies House, through UK holding companies, and say whether a listed party is recorded as owning 50% or more, may do, or controls it. Companies House records shareholdings in bands, so a holding of "more than 25%, up to 50%" is reported as possibly 50%.

Guides to the rules: Does the US Entity List apply to UK companies?, the US 50% rule from 10 November 2026, the UK, EU and US ownership tests compared and the UK sanctions end-use controls. And how our price compares with AEB, Descartes and the free government searches.

The limit: only ownership recorded at Companies House. Owners above a foreign company are not recorded there, and each result names where the record stops.

Questions

Which lists does an export screening check cover?
Six US export-control lists (the Entity List, the Military End User, Denied Persons and Unverified lists from the Bureau of Industry and Security, and the State Department's ITAR Debarred and Nonproliferation Sanctions lists) and the UK, UN, EU and US OFAC sanctions lists. Every record names each list and the date its publisher last changed it.
Does a check tell me whether I need an export licence?
No. It is a screening record: it tells you whether a party is a possible match on the lists. Whether you need a licence depends on the goods, the destination and the end use, which you check with the relevant authority or adviser.
What does the UK company ownership check cover?
For a UK company, everyone recorded as owning or controlling it at Companies House, up to five levels through UK holding companies. It cannot see owners above a foreign company, and each result says so.
How do I pay?
From your Certaby credit: £1.49 a check, less a name for a list (down to 59p). Export watch is a monthly plan from £39.

This is a screening record, not a licensing decision. Whether you need a licence depends on the goods, the destination and the end use.
