Ownership
Every layer

The company and owners check follows the Companies House ownership chain through holding companies and screens up to 30 people.

From appointment to closure

One case. One file. Built as the case moves.

Open a Finance and business job for the case and add each company and person as they come in. Each one is checked once; adding someone later charges only for them.

1

Before you consent to act

Add the company. Certaby reads its Companies House record, lists every director and every owner through the chain of holding companies, and screens them all against the UK, UN, EU and US sanctions lists, with PEP and adverse media.

2

Record your assessment

A short risk record for the appointment: what the work is, where the money comes from and your risk rating, with the evidence. Where enhanced checks apply, for a politically exposed person or someone living in a high-risk country, Certaby says so.

No charge
3

Before you sell

Add the buyer of the business or its assets to the same case, with the company and the people behind it. Only the new parties are charged.

£1.39 a person, £4.38 a company
4

Watch the case

The company and the people and companies named in the case are screened against the sanctions lists every day, and you are emailed if a new match appears. The first 6 weeks are included; after that, 10p a person a week.

Close the file with one certificate

One signed certificate for the case, with a link anyone can use to check it is genuine: for your file, your regulator or a creditor who asks. Records are kept for at least five years.

What a case includes

Every check the rules ask for, ticked for you.

The checks the law requires are selected when you open the job. Each one names the rule behind it, so you can explain it to a creditor or your regulator.

Company and owners

Questions

What practitioners ask us.

Yes. Since 14 May 2025 insolvency practitioners are "relevant firms" under UK financial sanctions, so you must report to OFSI as soon as practicable if you know or have reasonable cause to suspect that a person is a designated person or has breached the sanctions. Work that is not insolvency practitioner business, such as acting as a receiver in the sale of a property, is outside it.

Before you consent to act. The money-laundering rules require you to verify the customer, and anyone who owns or controls a company customer, before the business relationship starts (MLR 2017 regulation 30), and the IPA expects it before any letter of engagement and before money reaches your client account.

A company is £4.38: the sanctions check with PEP and adverse media on the company, and the company and owners check. Each director and owner it finds adds 40p. A person is £1.39. The risk and ID records and the first 6 weeks of monitoring have no charge. You see the exact price before anything runs.

It follows the ownership recorded at Companies House through every layer of holding companies and screens up to 30 people: every current director and officer, and the people with significant control. A company owned or controlled by a designated person counts as sanctioned too.

Yes. A single sanctions check is 99p a name, and screening a spreadsheet of creditors in bulk is set up on request.

The first 6 weeks are included. After that you extend it from the case, 10p a person a week, up to a year in all. For longer or many cases, the Basic Monitoring plan watches up to 100 people or companies for £19.99 a month.

Not yet. Today you look at the passport or driving licence and Certaby records it with the date. Digital ID checks through a government-registered provider are on the way, priced per person.

At least five years, as the money-laundering rules require. Checks run, and records are kept, in the UK.
